Christmas Time

A big thank you! to CMR for my Christmas present, an unraveled pink and purple purse. I say unraveled because, well, the purse basically looked like this until I knit raveled it.
Pink/Purple Purse: Yarn

I always forget to take a picute pre-felting, but it was ginormous. Then it was slightly-less-than ginormous. It was also less pink because the purple dye bleed outrageously. Oops.
Pink/Purple Purse: Outside

Knitting stretches. It's the function of the beast. Stretching doesn't really matter when the bag is felted, since you can just throw it back in the washing machine, reblock it* (heh, more on that later), and presto-changeo, good as new! However, it is part of my contract to keep my mother entertained and feeling useful (why else would I leave my stuff all over the house, I ask?) so I allowed asked her to line it for me. She whipped out her stash of purple fabric and we found the perfect fabric.
Pink/Purple Purse: Inside

In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess, the purse and all its components were completely knit and felted long before now. However, I am a knitter. Because of this, the purse and all its components sat around for a number of weeks, maybe a month and a half, in pieces. I complaining bitterly about the fact that I had to sew the pieces together. If they had been knit together before felting, no problem. But now that it was no longer a knitterly concern, I... didn't want to do it. Fortunatly for me, Mom is a sewer and a mother. She sewed it together lickity split! (See? Entertained and useful!)

The observant among you (okay, really, who am I kidding? I'm referring to CMR here, since Mom already knows this) will notice that this is the same polka dot fabric that Grandma used to make a dress that, sadly, doesn't fit me. It's also the same fabric that Mom used to make me a pillow out of the sleeves of Grandma's dress that, sadly, doesn't fit me. (Now that I think about it's almost three generations of handicrafting in one object. My knitting, Mom's lining, Grandma's fabric. Too bad Grandma is Dad's mom. ;))

Mom does nice work. She loves me very much. I'm such a dork so cool I can admit it publicly! She put pretty hand embroidery around the top of the inside of the purse. I love my mommy. :)
PnP Stitching

The purse is actually quite spacious. Spacious enough, in fact, that all my pursely possessions don't fill it up. (Maybe that's why I've never graduated from my multicolored bag that I made as my first project?) It does hold an unfelted hedgehog, its yarns, needles, and pattern, rather nicely.

I am pleased.
