Baby Surprise

My first Baby Surprise Jacket! Stephanie's advice on just following the pattern and not thinking too hard about it is very true. Trust the Zimmerman. She will not lead you astray.

BSJ Buttons

I wanted to use puppy buttons, as the daddy said he couldn't find any pink baby girl clothing with puppies. That didn't work out, unfortunately. The puppies were angular enough to get caught in the knitting. Oh well. I followed Mamacita's advice and went for some rounded buttons. I barely managed to resist the lavender hearts.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Cascade Superwash. Knitting with it was not my favorite knitting experience. It was actually rather harsh, especially the lighter pink. As I was knitting the swatch (yes, I swatched. You can get up off the floor now, really. And you can close your mouth, too.) I was thinking to myself, This is rather harsh. I wouldn't want this against my skin, much less against a baby's. But I finished the swatch and threw it in the washer.

It was transformed! It was soft! It was drapey! And it hadn't felted! (I was ridiculously worried about it felting.) I cast on immediately for the jacket.

I don't know what it was, but something about this yarn killed my elbow about two days before I finished it. It could be that I was really pushing to finish it, so I was knitting 24/7 and not taking breaks. Possibly. But I'm going to blame it on the superwash wool.

This is so cute! I love the two tones of pink. You are so right about Cascade SW... it really transforms and is really soft after washing!
